If you are a writer, especially one that charges for its services, with a business plan in place is essential. It does not matter if a business plan can help you run your business more effectively, but a plan must be one that passes the scrutiny of the IRS and comply with all state and local government.
Sometimes it's almost impossible to find out what steps to take in order to meet the myriad needs. You are an excellent writer, which does not mean that you are an expert in business administration!
My local technical and community college is offered in Tuesday night this year to help business owners. Some of the items being offered are:
# The establishment of its Mission and Vision of Small Business
# Protection - Copyright, Patents, Trademarks, Intellectual Property
# Show Me The Money: Principles for Prosperity Your Small Business
I plan on taking several courses this year as I want to do some of my company passes muster. Naturally, I want to concentrate on the writing aspect of the business, but the rest of "things" is also necessary. Consult your local office of continuing education for a list of upcoming seminars. Many courses are free or require a nominal fee. In any case, have nothing to lose, but a business to win!
